ANTHROPOLOGY OF THE HOMETOWN ON LOCKDOWN

How The Arts Have Fared

HOW HAS COVID 19 AFFECTED THE ARTS, AND HOW HAVE ARTISTS RESPONDED?

This research question is addressed with three perspectives.
1. Looking at the impact of Covid-19 on art as a whole.
2. Ways that art has been a helpful tool in dealing with this pandemic.
3. Stories from local artists from my hometown, Bluffton IN.

WHY THE ARTS?

Covid-19 lead to thousands of people losing jobs, events being held online or canceled, and other negative effects. The arts have been and continue to be an important part of our social, civic, and economic well-being as a country. The arts are intertwined in nearly every sector of our society including medicine, education, civic activities, business. So, how have artists fared through the Pandemic?

I am interested in investigating more about this topic because I am an artist at Purdue University. I, like many artists, feel the pull to visually capture what is going on in the world. Similarly, I have also experienced some of the dramatic changes caused by the Pandemic.

“To be an artist is to believe in life.”
